چکیده
Abstract This study set out to examine the basic reading skills (accuracy and fluency in decoding, word text reading) some of reading-related language (phonological awareness rapid-naming) 54 adults with low comprehension, who read transparent German orthography. Participants were born Germany showed a typical non-verbal processing speed. With exception accuracy, participants expected present deficits all skills. The average performance measures decoding was extremely low. A notable proportion sample, however, did not deficit these measures. As expected, rate errors generally Nevertheless, accuracy deficient for one quarter sample. Tests addressing also indicated an phonological awareness, but rapid-naming. Here too, variance observed. These results suggest that characterise, on average, comprehension. At same time, significant comprehension this population do necessarily imply more as well. In addition, indicate constitutes source difficulty adults, despite sources throughout different remain be explored.

متن کاملAdults with poor reading skills: How lexical knowledge interacts with scores on standardized reading comprehension tests.
Millions of adults in the United States lack the necessary literacy skills for most living wage jobs. For students from adult learning classes, we used a lexical decision task to measure their knowledge of words and we used a decision-making model (Ratcliff's, 1978, diffusion model) to abstract the mechanisms underlying their performance from their RTs and accuracy. We also collected scores for...

متن کاملDeep Read: A Reading Comprehension System
This paper describes initial work on Deep Read, an automated reading comprehension system that accepts arbitrary text input (a story) and answers questions about it. We have acquired a corpus of 60 development and 60 test stories of 3 to 6 grade material; each story is followed by short-answer questions (an answer key was also provided). We used these to construct and evaluate a baseline system...
متن کاملAutomatic Natural Language Processing and the Detection of Reading Skills and Reading Comprehension
The primary goal of this study is to assess two approaches for detecting comprehension processes in R-SAT (Reading Strategy Assessment Tool). One approach is based on Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) while the other is a combination of literal word matching and soundex. A secondary goal is to assess the potential for detecting specific reading comprehension strategies, either in isolation or comb...
